Decreases in Enrollment Continue in U.S. Managed Medicaid Markets

- As of March 31, 2026 (1Q26), total Medicaid enrollment included just over 73 million Americans, representing a year-over-year (YOY) decrease of nearly 3.6 million (M) enrollees (4.7%) since the same time last year (1Q25).
- With the largest Medicaid presence in the nation by a significant margin, California saw a decrease of over 755,000 (K) enrollees YOY, or about 5.4% of its enrollment.
- New York Medicaid membership fell by 2.9%, representing a YOY loss of nearly 170K covered lives.
- Texas and Florida saw similar shifts in YOY Medicaid enrollment, dropping about 211K members (5.5%) and 132K (3.7%) respectively.
- Indiana saw one of the largest YOY decreases in the country, both in membership and percentage; the state saw over 281K enrollees lose coverage, approximately 17.5% of its total Medicaid enrollment.
