ABOUT HEALTH PLANS USA™
Health Plans USA™ is a valuable tool for analyzing health insurance market share and product mix. Competitive factors such as economies of scale, operational efficiencies, provider contracting arrangements and pricing leverage all hinge on the size and diversity of a company’s enrollment base.
The primary focus of this product is medical coverage. Health Plans USA™ tracks companies that sell health insurance through employer-sponsored arrangements, government programs and direct to consumer. Approximately 400 companies currently compete for health coverage business and collectively they operate more than 800 health plans nationwide. Health Plans USA™ subscribers also have access to data for select specialty health insurance companies, e.g., dental and vision plans, that file health statutory statements with the NAIC.
Company data is presented in the database based on how frequently they file health insurance updates with the NAIC. Most companies file quarterly membership updates. Many life companies competing for health insurance business file relevant data on an annual basis only.
Self-insured plans are not required to report performance to regulators; they are not generally included in Health Plans USA™. If you need market data for self-insured business, contact Mark Farrah Associates at 207-985-8484 for information about our ASO dataset and comprehensive health coverage portal.
